KIRKUK/ Aswat al-Iraq: Police sources said here today that unknown gunmen assassinated today the commander of Daqouq intelligence department, 30 km south of Kirkuk.

He was assassinated before his residence in Touz area, 80 km south of Kirkuk, the source added.

The culprits fled to unknown destination.

The deceased is a Kurd who joined the Kurdish Democratic Party.

Kirkuk lies 280 km north east of the capital, Baghdad.

It is one of the disputed areas between Baghdad and Arbil, that witnesses continued terrorist attacks against the security forces and the civilians, alike.
