WASSIT/ Aswat al-Iraq: One officer and four soldiers were killed in an armed attack on their patrol north of Wassit, military sources said today.

 

The source told Aswat al-Iraq that the attack took place in Wihda area, 140 km north of Kut city.

 

The patrol belongs to the 11th Division, which is stationed north of the province.

 

Precautionary measures were taken, but the culprits fled the scene of the crime before the arrival of support forces.

 

No other details were given.

 

Kut, center of the province, lies 180 km south east of the capital, Baghdad.
