WASSIT / Aswat al-Iraq: Three al-Qaeda elements were arrested on Thursday, in addition to a drug gang in northern Wassit, the Wassit police department said.

 

"A police force arrested three wanted men of al-Qaeda during a raid in al-Suweira district, north of Kut," General Hussein Abdulhadi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

 

"They are involved in implementing operations against civilians and security forces in the province," he added, pointing out that the operation was based on intelligence information.

 

"Another forces arrested a three-man drug gang in al-Suweira district," the general added.

 

"They were arrested with drugs in their possession," he said.

 

Kut, the capital of Wassit, lies 180 km southeast of Baghdad.
