BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq – The Wali (Governor) of Baghdad in the extremist al-Qaeda Organization, Munaf al-Rawi and five of his assistants, have been sentenced to death by the Supreme Criminals Court, the semi-official al-Iraqiya TV Satellite Channel reported on Wednesday.
“The Supreme Criminal Court has issued a decision to sentence Munaf al-Rawi and five of his assistants to death,” the Channel said in an urgent report.
Noteworthy is that the Baghdad Operations Command had announced last year the detention of one of al-Qaeda leaders, Munaf Abdul-Rahim al-Rawi appointed by al-Qaeda as the Wali (Governor) of Baghdad in Huteen District of Baghdad.
It had charged Rawi with being behind several terrorist operations, among them the assassination of Parliament Member, Harith al-Obeidy, along with a number of attacks on embassies, ministries and hotels in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
