Arresting journalist in Kurdistan condemned, organization

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Correspondents Without Borders Organization condemned today the arrest of Kurdish journalist Shirwan Shirwani.
Shirwani was released on bail after six days of detention that started on 20 April.
The organization, specialized in defending the freedom of journalists and their work, said that "this arbitrary detention is illegal".
Kurdish police arrested Shirwani, who is editor-in-chief of monthly magazine published in Duhuk.
He was known of his articles against corruption among leading political personalities in Kurdistan.
Shirwani published an article in May 2011 against the municipality director with corruption documents.
The organization added that he was released on bail with the amount of one million Iraqi dinars (about 650 Euros).
On the other hand, the organization called for submitting reasons for not publishing Hell of Truth by Aso Jabbar which depicts the violations of the authorities against the writers, journalists and activists.
Reports said that the Kurdish Culture Ministry refused permission to publish this book for its contents that accuses the Kurdish government with violations of the freedom of press.
