BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: UNESCO office in Baghdad disclosed that the organization and a number of local partners will celebrate the International Day for the Freedom of Press.
The celebrations will include a number of activities concentrating on the expansion of the media and freedom of expression.
The legislative aspects of Iraqi media shall be discussed, in addition to publishing a number of national reports on press freedoms.
This day was established in one of the African countries in 1991, and being celebrated since then, UNESCO coordinator Dhia al-Sarai said.
The topic of this year celebrations shall concentrate on the "new voices and the freedom of expression and media".
He added that the legislative side of Iraqi media shall be tackled in the celebrations, as well as the laws related to Iraqi media, the right to reach the information, journalist's rights and information crimes' law.
The celebrations shall be held next Thursday, 3 May 2012.
Sarai added that Human Rights Office in Baghdad shall be partner to the UNESCO in organizing this celebration, in addition to Iraqi parliament and some human rights organizations and NGOs' connected with the press.
