80,000 Syrian refugees in Kurdistan

DUHUK / Aswat al-Iraq: The number of Syrian refugees in Kurdistan region has passed 80,000 , according to the immigration department in Duhuk province.
"The number of Syrian refugees in Iraq's Kurdistan region has passed 80,000, and the number is increasing daily by 500 to 600 persons," Mohammad Abdullah, head of the department told the London-based al-Hayat newspaper.
"The refugees' conditions are fine as authorities managed to take all necessary measures to face harsh weather," he added.
Freezing rain falls on the Arbat Refugee Camp in northern Iraq, more than 400 kilometers from the Syrian border.
In the past five months, more than 500 Syrian refugees have traveled to this ad hoc camp in the middle of a bean field.
