Baghdad will not cancel arms deals with Moscow, Zebari
2/22/2013 12:14 PM

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Foreign minister Hoshiar Zebari stressed that Iraq will not abrogate the arms deals with Moscow, signed last year with the amount of $4 billion.

In a statement to Russian Interfax, he confirmed that Iraq will not leave this deal and no changes were reported on it.

He added that "reports said that there are possible corruption cases to these agreements, so an Iraqi defence delegation came here to confirm that no changes had occurred".

Zebari attributed the delay in handling the Russian arms to Iraqi financial difficulties.

"There is a possibility of delay, but no abrogation will be made", he confirmed.

Earlier, reports said that there was a corruption case in the deal that led to delay it and to re-negotiate its terms.

If this deal is implemented, Russia will be the second arms exporter to Iraq after USA.
