BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Leader of Iraq’s Shiite Supreme Islamic Council, Juma’ al-Atwany, has said on Saturday that the Council had expressed support for the nomination of Jawad al-Bolani for the post of Defense Minister in the Iraqi Cabinet.
“Jawad al-Bolani enjoys acceptance by the majority of the Political blocs, due to his neutralism,” Atwani told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, adding that “the Supreme Islamic Council welcomes Bolani’s nomination for the Defense Minister’s post.”
Atwani said that Bolani “enjoys experience in steering the security dossier, especially during his previous assignment of the Interior Minister’s post,” expressing expectation that “Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki would accept his nomination for the Defense Minister’s post.”
Differences have taken place since more than 4 months about the candidates for the Security Posts, that are still vacant, especially the Interior and Defense Minister’s posts, the first being the share of the National Coalition, led by Maliki and the second being the share of al-Iraqiya Coalition, led by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, with each side rejecting the candidate of the other.
