NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq – Eight detained persons have been released by north Iraq’s Ninewa police on Saturday, raising the total persons released since the beginning of March to 61 persons, Ninewa’s Police Director-General said.

“We have released today (Saturday) 8 detainees, arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Directorate in Ninewa Police, after they have been proven innocent,” Maj-General Ahmed Hassan Attiya told Aswat al-Iraq news  agency.

He said the number of released persons has reached 61 since the beginning of March, adding that their release “has taken place, being part of the demands of demonstrators in Mosul over the past few days.”

Mosul, the center of Ninewa Province, is 405 kms to the north of Baghdad.
