BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: The Chairman of the Parliamentary Integrity Commission Baha' al-Araji disclosed today that important governmental personalities were involved in the Central Bank of Iraq corruption case, connected with smuggling foreign currency abroad.
In a press conference, attended by Aswat al-Iraq, he added that the Commission outlined the corruption in the CBI and demanded that the investigation should cover Iraqi commercial departments in Iraqi embassies in Amman, Dubai and Istanbul for endorsing trade documents.
He did not name those involved in the corruption case.
More than 20 officials at the CBI are under investigation, including the Governor Sinan al-Shibibi himself, who was demoted from his post till the investigations are finished.
It is expected that the case will cover more officials, as well as a number of Iraqi private bankers and government officials.
