KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: A car bomb blast in northeastern Kirkuk on Friday left 11 people wounded in an initial count of casualties, a medic with a Kirkuk hospital said.
“The explosion left 11 people wounded,” the medic told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, not giving further details.
Brig. Sarhad Qader, the director of the Kirkuk Districts Police Department (KDPD), told Aswat al-Iraq that a car bomb parked on a roadside near the entrance of Raheem Awah souk (outdoor market) went off, leaving a number of wounded persons and causing damage to nearby vehicles and stores.
Earlier, Qader said a powerful explosion rocked the entrance of the souk as initial reports talk about a car bomb, not referring to any possible casualties from the blast.
Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
