Sadrist Trend withdraws from demonstrators' demands committees
1/23/2013 4:51 PM

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: The Sadrist Trend announced here today withdrawing its ministers from governmental committees to follow up the demands of the demonstrators in some cities and provinces, in protest for "the un-seriousness of the government to meet their demands".

Spokesman Salah al-Obaidi, in a press conference today, said that "the Trend is committed to attend in the Cabinet, but will withdraw from the special ministerial committee that looks into the demands of the demonstrators".

"We do not want this committee to be a front for ignoring the real and realistic solution of the crisis", he added.

A 7-man ministerial committee was formed under the chairmanship of deputy premier Hussein Shahristani.

Since 22 December 2012, Anbar province witnessed massive demonstrations and sit-in, in addition to Ninewa, Salahal-Din, Diala, Kirkuk and Baghdad demanding the release of innocent detainees and prisoners, while others called for toppling Maliki's government.
