DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq – Northeast Iraq’s Diala Province has 1,776 detainees, charged with Article-4 Terrorism of the Iraqi Law, among the total detainees in the province that exceed 4,000, a Diala Council Member said on Saturday.

“We have 1,776 detainees in different parts of Diala, arrested according to Article 4-Terrorism, including 400 detainees in the main office of the National Investigations, whilst the cases of majority of the detainees, including some detained about 5 years ago and their cases were not raised to the judicial authorities,” the Council source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He said that a special committee had been formed, comprising representatives of the Local Administration, the Operations Command and the Province’s Council, along with the police command, aimed to settle the dossiers of detainees, through transferring their cases to the judicial authorities and to release of the innocent ones.

Baaquba, the center of Diala Province, is 57 kms to the northeast of Baghdad.
