PM calls to boost security in Salah al-Din
4/3/2011 3:12 PM

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki received at his office in Baghdad on Sunday the Governor of Salah al-Din Province, Ahmed Abdullah, and the Legislature, Qutaiba Ibrahim, calling for the necessity to boost the security situation in their Province.

“Prime Minister Maliki has called to boost the security situation in Salah al-Din Province and to activate coordination among its different offices.
He reiterated the need to step up the activity of the Province’s offices, in order to present public services and achieve the legitimate demands of its citizens,” a Prime Minister’s office statement pointed out.

It said that both sides “have discussed the security and service conditions, along with the problems facing citizens in Salahaddin Province, adding that “Maliki had listened to a detailed explanation of the circumstances that led to the criminal incident that took place in the Province, which caused dozens of its citizens killed or injured.”

A group of armed men, dressed in military uniform, had broken through Salah al-Din Province’s Council building last week, killing 60 people and wounding 90 others, including 3 of its Council Members, and journalists, tribal chieftains and security men.

Tikrit, the center of Salah al-Din Province, is 175 km to the north of Baghdad.
