 Maliki agrees to a Nujaifi's suggestion, Parliament Speaker

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi disclosed today that Premier Nouri al-Maliki agreed to his latest suggestion to solve the crisis between Baghdad and Arbil on the disputed areas and the military and security dossier.

He hoped that Arbil government will accept it.

In a press conference, attended by Aswat al-Iraq, he elaborated that he suggested the withdrawal of all forces in the disputed areas from present positions to be replaced by local police force.

He added that the local police should be from the components of these areas that will administer the security dossier in full.

Regarding the administrative dossier in the disputed areas, Nujaifi suggested that they should be under the provinces and provincial councils' jurisdiction.

In other words, the provincial jurisdiction shall be extended to the last part of the province, according to the constitution, he added.

Nujaifi added that Premier Maliki agreed to this suggestion which was delivered to the Kurdish administration.

Nujaifi suggested on 21 November, 2012 that both sides should resort to 2009 agreement on the security issues of the disputed areas.

Meetings were held on this subject, but the situation was deteriorating again.

Regarding the political situation, Nujaifi pointed out that withdrawing confidence from Maliki's government is "not under discussion".
