WASSIT/ Aswat al-Iraq: Ahdab Oilfield workers conducted here an open sit-in to demand an increase in their wages and better work conditions.
The sit-in resulted in stopping the work in the field, while the Chinese Waha company declined to comment.
The workers suffered many problems including the low wages in comparison to work hours, which, sometimes, reach to 12 hours per day, in addition to mal-treatment by the Chinese company, as well as the bad food, according to one of the participants in the sit-in.
The workers, also, demanded the return of the fired workers and to appoint them within the cadres of Iraqi ministry of oil.
Aswat al-Iraq tried to contact the Chinese company, but the officials rejected to comment.
Kut, center of the province, lies 180 km south east of the capital, Baghdad.
