Thi-Qar Council blames Baathists for “enraging” protesters
2/25/2011 5:54 PM

THI-QAR / Aswat al-Iraq: An official in the Thi-Qar Provincial Council on Friday accused “Baathists” of enraging the protesters, noting security forces arrested three of the dissolved party who were among the demonstrators.

“The Baath Party is enraging the demonstrators and using them for their own interests,” Sajjad al-Assadi, the council’s security committee chairman, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Security agencies arrested three members of the disbanded party who were among the demonstrators,” he said, adding “most of the protesters’ demands have to do with the central government but as far as we are concerned we are ready to implement them.”

A number of dumb and deaf persons have taken part in the demonstrations to call for jobs and fighting corruption, raising slogans that read “God made us dumb and deaf but why are you like us?”
