Usama al-Nujaifi suggests plan to defuse crisis
12/5/2012 2:22 PM

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Parliament’s Speaker Usama al- Nujaifi suggested the withdrawal of army and Peshmerga forces and replacing them with local police forces to ease the current tension, according to a statement from the parliament.

"Al-Nujaifi presented the proposal to President of Kurdistan Massoud Barzani on Tuesday in Arbil, as he suggested the withdrawal of the Peshmerga and army troops and replace them with the local police in areas that witness a tension between the two sides," said the statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

"President Barzani sees the proposal as a positive and should be raised for discussion at the meeting of the technical and military committees," the statement added.
