KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: A policeman was killed by gunmen in south of Kirkuk late Sunday, a security source said on Monday.

 

"Unknown gunmen opened fire on the cop using silenced guns in Yankieja village in al-Touz, south of Kirkuk, killing him on the spot," the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

 

"Police carried the body to the Kirkuk morgue, and started an investigation into the incident," he added, without giving more details.

 

Kirkuk lies 280 km northeast of Baghdad.
