NINEWA/ Aswat al-Iraq: Security sources said here today that gunmen assassinated a tribal elder, south of the city.

The source told Aswat al-Iraq that unknown gunmen assassinated Ahmed Al-Rubi, 60 km south of the city.

The culprits shot the man with light guns and fled the crime scene, the source added.

Mosul, center of the province, lies 405 km north of the capital, Baghdad.
