KIRKUK/ Aswat al-Iraq: Crime Combat Department said here today that a police officer specialized in crime combating escaped assassination attempt.

The source told Aswat al-Iraq that unknown gunmen shot the police officer late last night that led to some injuries, south of the city.

No other details were reported.

Kirkuk, center of the city, lies 280 km north east of the capital, Baghdad.

It is one of the disputed areas between Baghdad and Arbil that witnesses continued violent actions against the military and civilians, alike.
