Army prevents civilians participating in Kirkuk demonstrations

KIRKUK/ Aswat al-Iraq: Close sources to demonstrations in Kirkuk said here today that Iraqi army prevented the citizens to enter Haweeja area, south west Kirkuk, to participate in the demonstration due after Friday mid-day prayers.

The source told Aswat al-Iraq that the army unit closed all the roads in Haweeja area, 65 km south west Kirkuk, to prevent the citizens from participating in the demonstrations.

The source, who preferred not to identified, added that Haweeja people got the security permit from Kirkuk province to hold the demonstration in support of Anbar, Salahal-Din and Diala protestors.

Kirkuk, center of the province, lies 280 km north east of the capital, Baghdad.
