UNESCO intends including Arbil fortress in international heritage

ARBIL/ Aswat al-Iraq: UNESCO announced it is intention to include Arbil fortress within the international heritage next year.

In a statement by UNESCO's office in Baghdad, copy received by Aswat al-Iraq, the decision was taken because Arbil was selected as the capital of Arab tourism.

Arbil fortress is situated inside Arbil city, capital of the Kurdish region, that dates back to the Assyrian era, c.
1000 B.C., which was built for defensive purposes.

Arab Tourism Ministers announced on 17 October, 2012 that Arbil will be the capital of Arab tourism for 2014.
