1/24/2014 1:15 PM

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi stated at US Brookings Institute in Washington that the implementation of the Iraqi constitution is governed "by personal interpretations" , which is the main obstacle before democratic change in Iraq.

In a statement by his office, the meeting was attended by many US policy and decision makers, as well as specialists in Iraqi affairs.

Nujaifi detailed the re-emergence of Qaeda organization in Iraq, after its defeat by Iraqi tribes in Anbar area, as well as the lack of understanding between the demands of the demonstrators and the terrorists.

The coming Iraqi elections were also tackled, in addition to the challenges facing democratic process in Iraq, the statement added.

During his visit, Nujaifi met President Barrack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden twice, as well as senior US officials, where the discussions concentrated on Iraqi affairs and current crises.
