THI-QAR / Aswat al-Iraq: A child was killed and two civilians wounded in clashes that erupted between the police and local residents in northern al-Nasseriya city, a security source said.

“Clashes broke out between a group of policemen who were trying to take out the body of a child who drowned in al-Hollandi river, (6 km) northern Nasseriya, while there were local residents gathered in the site,” the source, who preferred not to have his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The police fired in the air in an attempt to disperse the gatherings, leaving one child killed and two local residents injured,” he added.

He said that the police arrested six, including five policemen and a citizen who tried to spark riots in the area.

Nasseriya, the capital city of Thi-Qar province, lies 380 km south of Baghdad.
