NAJAF / Aswat al-Iraq: Iranian Shoura Council Speaker Ali Larijani arrived in Najaf on Tuesday to meet top Shiite clerics before heading to Baghdad to meet Iraqi officials, a media source said.

"Larijani arrived today in Najaf to meet top Shiite clerics and to visit Imam Ali shrine," the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, noting that Najaf Governor Adnan al-Zarfi and Deputy Chairman of the local council Qusay Suhail received the official upon his arrival.

"The Iranian official will head for Baghdad later to meet Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Parliament's Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi as well as Chairman of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council Ammar al-Hakim," he said.
