Talabani, Maliki meeting expected with US mediation

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Highly informed political source informed London based Al-Sharq al-Awsat daily that next week will witness a meeting between President Jalal Talabani and Premier Nouri al-Maliki following internal, regional and international mediations.

The un-named source said to the paper, published today, Friday that the Americans exerted extra efforts to find a solution to the present crisis, according to Iraqi constitution and joint agreements reached among Iraqi political circles.

Premier Maliki announced in a press conference that the National Alliance made Talabani as president of the Iraqi republic, which angered Talabani and the Kurdish Alliance.

President Talabani discussed with US officials possibilities of solving all problems through dialogue, constitution and national agreements.

Kurdish Alliance member Hassan Jihad pointed out that "trust should be achieved among the parties, because the problem is not technical or military, but it is political and constitutional".
