People lost confidence in government, Nujaifi

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Parliament Speaker Usama Nujaifi stated that "the resort to demonstrations means that the people lost their confidence with the government".

In a statement, copy received by Aswat al-Iraq, he called the army and police forces to respect personal and public freedoms, neglect political objectives, respect demonstrators' demands and non-denominational attitudes.

He added that great number of prisoners and detainees were not put to trial, including males and females.

Nujaifi elaborated that "the resort to demonstrations point out that the people lost their confidence in the ability of the government to contain their aspirations, thus creating a state of mistrust between the government and the people".

"We have to respect the demands of the demonstrators, because these protest will help to avoid future mistakes and thriving atmosphere for the growth of democracy", he pointed out.
