BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that the visit made by Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi to Turkey is for treatment purpose.
"Al-Hashemi flew to Turkey on April 9, his third stop in what he has called "official visits" to regional countries.
Erdogan said he had come to Turkey to receive treatment for his illness, according to Anatolia news agency.
Al-Hashemi is sought by Iraqi government on terror charges for allegedly running death squads against Shiite pilgrims, government officials and security forces.
He previously visited Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
