NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Ninewa governor reopened al-Ahrar square this afternoon after army forces closed it, banning protesters from reaching it.

 

 

"Governor Atheel al-Nujaifi reopened al-Ahrar square in central Mosul hours after Ninewa Operations Command closed it," a media source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

 

 

Local residents had told Aswat al-Iraq earlier that army forces shot in air to disperse them to prevent them from entering the square.

 

 

The governor had shouldered the Operations Command the responsibility of any bloodshed in the province, criticizing army intervention in the political work, according to a statement on Sunday.
