Decreasing Kurdish Budget by 5% demanded

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: A number of MPs for several provinces called the Parliamentary Financial Commission to decrease the share of the Kurdish region by 5%, at a time unprecedented tension is rising between Baghdad and Arbil.

In a press conference, about 10 MPs representing Babel, Wassit provinces, affiliate to State of Law bloc, headed by Premier Nouri al-Maliki, demanded decreasing the Kurdish share in the central budget from 17% to 12%.

Calls were made during the last few months to decrease the Kurdish share in the central budget, alleging that their share is higher than the real figures of the Kurdish population.

Tension is rising between the Baghdad and Arbil that led to concentrating armies in the disputed areas, particularly in rich oil Kirkuk province, following the formation of Dijla Operations Command to control the security in Diala, Kirkuk and Salahal-Din provinces, which matter was rejected by the Kurdish region.
