Mutlaq rejects "demotion of Tikrit and Mosul universities' professors"
10/21/2011 1:53 PM

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Deputy Premier Saleh al-Mutlaq rejected what he called "demotion" of a number of professors from Mosul and Tikrit universities, pointing out that these procedures are "disappointing and depressive" to the coming political stability and uprising of scientific and economic situations.

In a field visit done by Mutlaq to Salah al-Din province, he met the governor, university teachers and tribal sheikhs.

In a statement issued by his office, and received by Aswat al-Iraq, he expressed his "astonishment for the recent procedures against university teachers at a time we are planning to finalize a national strategy for education and encouraging our professors abroad to come back."

Tikrit University sources said, earlier, that the resignation of the president of the university was accepted.
The resignation was a protest move for demoting 150 professors and university employees in implementation of Questioning and Justice Law.

Tikrit, the center of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of the capital, Baghdad.
