Iraq achieves electricity self-sufficiency end of 2013

BAGHDAD/ Aswat al-Iraq: Electricity minister Kareem al-Jumaily announced here today that Iraq will achieve electricity self-sufficiency at the end of this year, except the problem of transporting the power from the stations to the cities.

In an interview with Arabia TV station, he added that Iraqi power production will jump to 13000 megawatts before the coming summer, pointing that the current stations will be able to produce 15000 megawatts.

He disclosed the problems of transporting the power from the stations to the cities.

Iraq suffers electricity shortage before 2003, except for the Kurdish region.
