1/5/2013 7:20 PM

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Ninewa's Ulama (clergymen) stressed that the right to demonstrate is guaranteed by the Iraqi Constitution, calling for the release of detainees and cancelling terrorism and Questioning and Justice Laws, as well as legislation of general amnesty law, among other things.

In a statement, copy received by Aswat al-Iraq and issued here today, most of the demands were proclaimed yesterday during the demonstrations.

The demands included abrogating the capital punishment in response to international calls and expedite the legislation of general amnesty law.

They called for balance in government appointments, particularly in the army and security forces, as well as re-opening investigations against Iraqi personalities, inside Iraq and abroad, cancelling Operations Commands all over Iraq and withdrawing all military and police forces from the cities.

A general census was also demanded before the elections under UN patronage, the formation of the Federal Court and halting arbitrary arrests.
