Nujaifi, Larijani differ on Syrian question

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi-Iranian parliamentarians today agreed  on their support for the Palestinian question in self-determination and organizing Asian Parliamentarian Conference in Baghdad, but differed on the reforms to be taken in Syria.
 
In a meeting today with Iranian Chairman of Shura Council Ali Larijani, both sides discussed bilateral relations and issues of joint interests, according Parliament Media Department.
 
Aswat al-Iraq received a statement in which both sides expressed the importance of Iraqi parliamentarians to Gaza and the right of the Palestinian people for self-determination.
 
The Iraqi Parliament sent a delegation to Gaza, header by Speaker Usama Nujaifi for one-day visit, where they expressed Iraqi support of the Palestinian people against Israeli aggression.
 
The statement added that Larijani proposed holding an Asian or Middle East Parliamentarian Conference to enhance joint relations.
 
Nujaifi suggested that the conference should be on the level of foreign relations commissions for some Middle Eastern countries, like Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunis and Libya, according to the statement.
 
Both sides held a press conference where they tackled the Syrian question.
 
The two sides had different views on the Syrian reforms and democracy.
 
Larijani and his accompanying delegation arrived in Najaf yesterday to meet senior clergymen.
