KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: An Assistant Police Director  in northern Iraq’s Kirkuk city has escaped an assassination attempt, when an explosive charge, stuck to his car, blew off south of the city early on Wednesday, a Kirkuk police director reported.

“The Assistant Director of Kirkuk’s al-Urouba district’s police, Colonel Najat Hassan, has escaped an assassination attempt on Wednesday morning, when an explosive charge blew off under his vehicle, while on his way to his office,” Colonel Shirzad Mofry told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Colonel Mofry said the explosion injured Colonel Hassan, who was driven to hospital for treatment, adding that the blast caused damage to the vehicle.

Kirkuk is 250 km to the northeast of Baghdad.
